“When it comes to dry fly fishing, the Sumo Hopper is by far my most effective dry fly. This pattern is tied with a loosely dubbed body and a slightly oversized hackle at the head to give a large profile on the surface. Trout sitting high in the water often take this fly intuitively, as well as when they’re feeding on terrestrial insects, buzzer or daddy long legs. Super effective on large UK reservoirs such as Rutland and Chew Valley, but more so on high-altitude lakes such as Llyn Clywedog and Llyn Brenig where terrestrial insects are in abundance.
